Spotted Towhee (Pipilo maculatus)

Januray 16, 2026 – I took my new Nikon 200-500mm lens out today to see how it handles bird photography. I’m not big on wildlife as anyone that has seen my work knows but now since I have this new lens I might dabble in the medium a little. I came away with mixed results and learned a huge amount, the main lessson being that my 45mp Nikon Z7II camera is too slow focusing for this type of work. I expect the lens will work better on my Nikon D800 DSLR. Anyway, here’s a Spotted Towhee (Pipilo maculatus) shot at 500mm handheld at 1/1000s.
